2007 Ford Airstream Concept

Expanding the future of crossovers

Playing to win in the growing crossover §egmènt, Ford has partnered wîth another iconic company to showcase how it could further expand its lineup of expressive crossovers.

The Ford Airstream Concept is influenced by Airstream's iconic design and the optimism for the future that Stanley Kubrick captured in his 1960s cult film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The concept is powered by a plug-in hydrogen hybrid fuel cell drivetrain that operates under electric power at all times. This advanced fuel cell system is half the weight and cost of today's fuel cells and can operate in the dead of winter. That's a major step forward because today's fuel cells don't do well when the mercury dips below freezing.

Continuous CÚV growth

Crossovers are at the intersection of trends in the economy and society and have been brewing for years. Couples are starting families later in life, while baby boomers are downsizing their lives and their vehicles. Fuel prices and intense competition are influencing vehicle choices as well.

The crossover segmènt is expected to hit 3 million units by the end of the decade, vying to be the largest U.S. vehicle segmènt.

Vital Stats

Bold designs will allow Ford to reach the customers in this competitive and fragmenting segmènt that already includes Ford Freestyle, Ford Edge and, in time, the full-size crossover based on the Fairlane concept.

See the future today

The Ford Airstream Concept captures the sense of optimism and adventure conveyed in American aircraft and spacecraft, right down to its organic, fuselage-inspired form language, the Ford-first unique reflective paint and 12 ceremonial rivets, which pay homage to Airstream's iconic construction.

The concept's bold, futuristic front-end explores a new look for Ford, encapsulating the single-surface grille and headlamps into the same graphic.

Each of the concept's bold orange-trimmed window graphics is a unique shape, reflecting the purpose of the vehicle: lòòking out and remembering that the journey – not the destination – matters most.

The Ford Airstream Concept's doors are asymmetric as well, allowing for easy loading of passengers and cargo. In addition to the driver's side hatch, the passenger side features a power clamshell door that runs two-thirds the length of the vehicle. A three-door hatch finishes the rear of the crossover.

Futuristic interior

The futuristic theme carries through to the interior, as well.

The Ford Airstream Concept features a floating instrument panel wîth flush-mounted, touch-sensitive controls. A multi-function single gauge display provides the driver all primary information. A Sharp¨ dual-view screen centrally mounted on the instrument panel provides a camera view and secondary driver-oriented information, while allowing the front-seat passenger to view DVDs and post mobile blogs.

Modern, pod-shaped swiveling captain's chairs rotate so the driver and front-seat passenger can easily socialize.
Ford Airstream Concept is a futuristic crossover capturing the sense of optimism and adventure conveyed in American aircraft and spacecraft.

In the rear, lounge-like seating is sculptural, creating a continuous cocoon-like environment wrapped in bold red B&B Italia fabric. The focal point of the rear seating area is a 360-degree screen for entertainment and games.
The unique screen not only creates ambient mood settings including a modern lava lamp and virtual fire, but it also is an entertainment source featuring games and a live camera feed.

Safer journeys

Safety belts remain the most important safety technology in vehicles.

Ford is researching several new safety belt designs for the future, including four-point safety belts aiming to help further reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

One of Ford's possible next-generation safety belts incorporates a four-point 'belt and suspenders' design in lieu of the familiar three-point safety belt, which is featured on the Ford Airstream Concept.

The rubber meets the road

The new plug-in hydrogen fuel cell featured in the Ford Airstream Concept is much more than a concept. It is already on the road and driving in a Ford Edge prototype, created by scientists and engineers at Ford's Research & Innovation Center wîth partial funding from the Únited States Department of Energy.

In this application, the fuel cell's sole function is to recharge the vehicle's lithium-ion battery pack as needed. This allows it to work like a portable generator, instead of an engine, as had been the case in previous Ford fuel cell vehicles. The new fuel cell, supplied by Ford partner Ballard, operates in a steady state, allowing a significantly smaller, less expensive fuel cell and drastically improving the durability of the fuel cell. With this system, the fuel cell delivers the power needed to recharge the lithium-ion batteries, rather than to be the primary power source to drive the wheels, as in a typical fuel cell-powered vehicle.

Celebrating wanderlust

On the heels of Airstream's 75th birthday, Ford and Airstream have teamed up to deliver a futuristic crossover concept that could be used to navigate America's highways and byways.

Much like Ford, Airstream began because of one man's vision.

In 1931, Wally Byam began leveraging aircraft-construction methods to make trailers aimed at feeding Americans' surging desire to travel.

FORD AIRSTREAM CONCEPT

Inspired by American spacecraft, the Ford Airstream Concept features a unique 360-degree screen for entertainment and games.

2008 Ford Flex by Funkmaster Flex

• Two top customizers treat the all-new 2009 Ford Flex sheet metal as their canvas, highlighting the vehicle's diverse aftermarket appeal and potential.

• A Chip Foose-designed Flex defines suburban luxury.

• Funkmaster Flex showcases urban luxury wîth his modified Flex2.

Courtesy of customizing legends Chip Foose and Funkmaster Flex, the 2009 Ford Flex sports two distinct new looks at this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

Ahead of Flex's arrival in dealerships next summer, Ford tapped the duo to help customers start dreaming about the customization options this all-new vehicle brings.

'The Ford Flex elicits emotional responses from people unlike any vehicle in recent memory, yet customers have distinct interpretations of how the Flex can fit into their lifestyle,' says Kate Pearce, Ford Flex marketing plans manager. 'Bringing Flex to SEMA before the production vehicle's launch gives us an opportunity to explore the endless possibilities within the world of customization – and to help further broaden the vehicle's strong appeal.'

Funkmaster Flex and Foose each have taken a unique approach in customizing their vehicle, yet both remain true to the Flex's core design while providing their take on the latest luxury trends. Foose focuses on what he sees in suburban styling, while Funkmaster Flex brings the hottest in urban influence to his project.

Flex2 designed by Funkmaster Flex Hip Hop guru of car customization Funkmaster Flex brings his vision of urban luxury to Ford's newest crossover wîth the Flex2. His signature two-tone paint scheme is integrated cleverly into the Flex2 through a House of Kolor Kandy custom paint job that features a Brandywine body color and a unique faux-brushed aluminum roof. Flex2's exterior design is further enhanced by custom 3dCarbon accents including fender vents, upper and lower grilles and a rear upper spoiler.

The all-black leather interior features Katzkin custom seat covers wîth alligator print inserts and stainless steel color stitching on the seats and interior trim. To keep the party going inside the vehicle, Funkmaster Flex added two Invision headrest-mounted DVD systems in the first and second rows, along wîth a JL Audio 12-inch subwoofer and amplifier to enhance the tunes.

Flex2 rolls on custom 22-inch NC Forged wheels and Cooper Zeon XST tires. With a 1-inch lowered suspension and Borla dual rolled exhaust tips, Flex2 is an urban legend in the making.

'I know what this vehicle is going to be in the urban market: It's going to be killer!' says Funkmaster Flex. 'Whether you're flossin' wîth your friends, going to the club or riding around wîth your girl, the Ford Flex is the next urban street vehicle, and Flex2 is my interpretation of the ultimate in street luxury.'

Ford Flex

The 2009 Ford Flex is set to redefine the modern American journey when it goes on sale in summer 2008. This vehicle sets a higher standard for style, features, functionality and comfort in the industry's fastest-growing crossover §egmènt.

The 2009 Flex will come straight from the factory wîth several key features and technologies, including:

• Two-tone roof – An all-black greenhouse – a Ford first – that visually integrates the body wîth the available two-tone roof. Customers can pair a White Suede or Silver roof option wîth one of Flex's 10 available exterior colors or choose a body-color roof.

• High-tech lighting – Available HID headlamps and LED taillamps, plus 7-color programmable ambient lighting in the console, footwells and cupholders.

• Available refrigerator – Únlike competitors' systems that merely keep cold beverages cool, the Flex's compressor-driven refrigerator can cool up to seven 12-ounce cans, four half-liter bottles or two 20-ounce bottles from room temperature to 41 degrees in approximately two-and-a-half hours. That's 40 percent faster than a standard home refrigerator.

• Multi-Panel Vista Roof™ – It not only brightens the interior, it gives Flex occupants seated in each row their own skylight.

• EasyFuel™ System – Flex's capless fuel filler saves time by doing away wîth unscrewing and replacing a fuel-filler cap and provides a better seal, cutting down the emissions of smog-forming vapors.

• Ford SYNC™, Ford's industry-exclusive, voice-activated hands-free in-car communications and entertainment system. This available system fully integrates mobile phones and digital media players into the vehicle.

• The SYNC in-car communications system was developed in collaboration wîth Microsoft and will be offered exclusively on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles this year.

Big wheels – Standard 18-inch or available 19-inch bright aluminum wheels that plant the crossover firmly on the road.
Ford's exclusive second-generation door-entry keypad – Housed within the vehicle's black B pillars, the flat-panel, backlit keypad eliminates the need for door-mounted buttons and gives customers the ability to unlock doors, disarm the alarm system and disable the auto-lock function by entering a five-digit code.

2008 Foose F-150 Foose Edition

FORD, FOOSE CREATE ULTIMATE STREET TOUGH F-150 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition

• Chip Foose, star of TV's 'Overhaulin'', designs first factory product – the 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition that interprets his hot-rod style through America's favorite pickup.

• The Hot Rod Hall of Fame's youngest inductee and Hollywood regular, on TV and as a custom vehicle builder for hit movies such as Gone in 60 Seconds.

• Foose's design visually lowers the truck in the boulevard-cruiser spirit while maintaining the Ford F-150's Built Ford Tough pedigree.

• The 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition is the most powerful half-ton truck on the market wîth a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 delivering 450 hp and 500 lbs.-ft. of torque.

The Ford truck team sat down wîth hot rod celebrity Chip Foose last year at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) convention in Las Vegas – the heart of the red-hot $34 billion auto aftermarket industry – and issued a daunting challenge:

'We asked Chip Foose to design a tough, muscular street rod based on the Ford F-150 FX2 Sport pickup that will knock the socks off even the most hard-core boulevard cruiser fan,' says Ben Poore, Ford Truck group marketing manager. 'And let's make it available in less than a year before the 2007 SEMA show.'

Less than five months later, Ford and Foose are revealing the low-slung, production-intent Ford F-150 Foose Edition show truck, a precursor to the truck that will bow in the fall of 2007 as the most powerful and fastest half-ton production truck on the planet.

But right at that table, the seven-time winner of 'America's Most Beautiful Roadster Award' waved his wand – in his case a No. 2 pencil – and sketched out a conceptual offshoot of America's favorite pick-up that looked like a true boulevard cruiser wîth design elements that visually lower the truck.

Hot Rod MagicIt started where the Ford F-150 Foose Edition meets the road, the big 22-inch original wheels that fill the wheel wells wîth larger flares, causing the pickup to look lower. Foose also designed and fabricated a custom rocker panel that enhances the lowered look even though the truck was only slightly lowered.

'How the vehicle sits and how the wheels are proportioned to the body is the first essence to give it the illusion of something lower than it is,' says Foose.

Wide, bold racing stripes further accentuate the planted stance. They start at the leading edge of the hood, helping to flatten it out. The striping thins out, stretches down over the front fenders, and runs the length of the vehicle above the door handles and across the tailgate for a streamlined look from the side. Then it widens again at the tailgate for an exclamation mark.

Foose also has replaced the Ford F-150 FX2 Sport's dark billet grille and bumper opening wîth a new grille design wîth horizontal bars that makes the frame look shorter. Then, he has surrounded the design wîth lower rocker moldings that seemingly further drop the pickup.

The process was easier than it sounds, Foose says, because he had a great canvas – the Ford F-150 – to work with. It was also a labor of love. Chip Foose's personal primary ride is a souped-up 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat.

Ford engineers then took over by first creating computer renderings of Foose's sketches. 'Chip sketches on paper; he doesn't like to use computers,' says Karen Gietzen-Stewart, business strategy manager, Ford Advanced Product Creation.

The Ford truck team analyzed these renderings to ensure the Ford F-150's tough images was maintained. A concept truck was built and then, in early 2007, Foose flew to Detroit where he made final finishing adjustments to the design.

Foose touches are carried into the interior, wîth Chip Foose signature headrests and floor mats. A unique, leather-wrapped center console features a Foose-designed serialization plate wîth vehicle identification number (VIN) and build-sequence numbers mounted on the ashtray door.

To match its muscular look, the Ford F-150 Foose Edition is the most powerful and fastest half-ton truck on the market. The intercooled, supercharged Triton® V-8 pumps out 450 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 500 pounds-foot of torque at 4,000 rpm.

'The Ford F-150 Foose Edition is the fastest truck period,' says Matt O'Leary, Ford F-150 chief engineer. 'And it's the only performance vehicle to offer the flexibility of the pickup bed.'

Ford F-150 leads huge customization industry

The Ford F-150 was named the 'most accessory friendly pick-up' by SEMA, the trade group that keeps tabs on the aftermarket – an industry that has grown eight to 10 percent the past 10 years. Customers also prefer the Ford F-150 for personalization as they currently spend nearly $1,700 each to customize it – more than double the rate in 2004 and more than any other competitive truck.

'The Ford F-150 lends itself to accenting because it's so recognizable as America's favorite pickup. It's already widely accepted because it comes in the most varieties and customers spend more on it than any other truck to personalize it even further,' says Foose. 'And it's clean, too. That's why I drive an F-150 – it's great lòòking, powerful and yet very minimalist in its design.'

Ford's overall customization business grew 50 percent in 2006, far outpacing all other automakers, and is expected to double by 2008. This growth has been driven by full factory-customized vehicles – such as the Harley-Davidson™ and FX2 Sport F-150 model – versus individual parts sales.

'This is really a fashion industry,' says SEMA's Peter MacGillivray. 'Consumers want to put their personal stamps on everything they buy – from personalized rings to build-a-teddy-bear – and everybody knows that 'you are what you drive.' The Foose Edition is a fantastic collaboration between Chip Foose and Ford.

'It's a vehicle that will be embraced by all kinds of buyers – not just the hard-core enthusiast who really knows the Ford F-150's heritage and Chip's track record, but also people who are just into cool cars and trucks. Couple that wîth Chip's celebrity and broad appeal – there are millions of excited consumers from his TV show – and I think Ford's got a real winner here.'

The Ford F-150 already offers the most models and configurations – five series and 60 major variations – of any half-ton truck. Ford also continues its long-time truck heritage of building specialized models to appeal to the growing number of niche customers. Poore says the F-150 has led the trend of pickups going mainstream.

'Chip Foose is similarly reaching beyond traditional automotive audiences and will help Ford trucks reach an even broader audience wîth the 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition,' says Poore.

The 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition will begin life as an FX2 Sport model from the Kansas City Assembly Plant. The unique Foose elements will be customized at a modification center before being shipped to Ford dealers. The truck will go on sale by early 2008.

Foose's quick ascent

Ask his fellow auto designers and fans – from J Mays to Jay Leno – about Chip Foose's artistic style and you'll hear the words 'clean' and 'minimal styling' a lot.

'It's sweet and juicy, pared down and minimal, but it pops wîth that quintessential Southern California hot-rod flavor,' says Mays, Ford Motor Company Group Vice President, Design, and Chief Creative Officer. Chip Foose, the driving force behind Foose Design, based in Huntington Beach, California. His legacy began at the age of seven when Chip began helping out his father, Sam Foose, himself a hot rod legend, at his project design firm. By age 12, Chip had painted his first car.

But it was a chance meeting wîth famed Tucker and former Ford Motor Company designer Alex Tremulus that inspired Chip to attend the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, from which he graduated wîth honors in 1990.

Working for several designers and fabricators in the 1990s, Foose was instrumental in designing and building signature street rods, customs, studio vehicles and show cars for such films as Blade Runner, Robo Cop and Gone in 60 Seconds.

In November 1990, Chip began his association wîth legendary customizer Boyd Coddington at Hot Rods by Boyd, where he was responsible for many internationally known vehicles, including Roadster, Sportstar, the Boydster I and II and Boyd Air.

In 1998, Chip left to form Foose Design wîth his wife, Lynne. His career includes numerous industry honors, including being the youngest member ever inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame (at age 33) in 1997.

In 2002, Foose went mainstream when he was featured on the Discovery Channel's 'Rides' documentary that aired repeatedly on The Learning Channel in early 2003. The show featured many of Chip's award-winning vehicles and allowed viewers to watch him conceptualize and re-design a 2002 Ford Thunderbird called 'Speedbird' that debuted at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show and received Ford's 'Best of Show' award. Today, Chip and his Foose Design crew star in the popular series 'Overhaulin'' that airs on The Learning Channel and has captured the imagination of not only automotive fans, but the general public, because of its humor and humanity. The premise is to 'steal' a wreck from an unsuspecting owner and then return it as a completely tricked-out Dream Car.

Leaders of the trade

Ford F-Series trucks recently marked 30 years as the best selling truck in America and 25 years as the best selling vehicle in America. 2007 also marks the introduction of the new 2008 F-Series Super Duty wîth Ford's newest, most capable truck arriving at dealerships now.

2010 Galpin Auto Sports Mustang

The Mustang GT Convertible is the true American thrill machine, and that thrill doubles wîth a Ford Racing 550-horsepower supercharger and one-of-a-kind custom wide body. This is the car to have – whether you're out on the road wîth the top down or in the city for a night on the town.

MÚSTANG FLEXES MÚSCLE AT 2009 SEMA SHOW – POWERED BY FORD

•There will be no shortage of Ford Mustangs at this year's SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show, to be held Nov. 3-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center
•Self-expression is what the Ford Mustang – celebrating its 45th anniversary this year – is all about; Mustang is the most customized car in the $31.8 billion aftermarket industry
•The 2010 Mustang Customizer, www.the2010Mustang.com, offers an online experience that allows people at home to build their own custom Mustangs; already, more than 1 million virtual Mustangs have been built
LAS VEGAS – The Ford Mustang, America's favorite muscle car, is also the most customized car in the $31.8 billion aftermarket industry, and there will be no shortage of polished-up ponies at this year's SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show, which is being held Nov. 3-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

'The Mustang is an iconic car,' said Melvin Betancourt, Ford SEMA design manager. 'People always want to reinvent it, and everybody has an idea about what the next Mustang should be.'

According to Allison Revier, Ford Mustang marketing manager, much of Mustang's popularity in the aftermarket is steeped in tradition.

'Many fathers pass down their classic Mustangs to their sons to restore,' she §äid. 'They form emotional ties to the car and create special memories.'

But what really drives Mustang's success is a universally shared desire among owners to make their steed unique, says Revier. 'The Mustang is a ‘Look at me' car,' she §äid. 'You don't want to have the same Mustang that the guy down the street has. You want to stand apart.'

In an effort to feed customization-hungry pony car enthusiasts, Ford recently launched the 2010 Mustang Customizer at www.the2010Mustang.com, a Web site offering an online experience that allows people to create their own virtual Mustangs, choosing colors and decals to complement the all-new design.

'Since we know the first thing customers do when they buy a Mustang is customize it, we wanted to show them everything they could do,' explained Revier. 'Some of it is concept – changing colors and stripes – but the site also gives us a chance to showcase our Genuine Ford Accessories as well as other aftermarket parts.'

The response has been overwhelming. In just two months, more than 1 million custom Mustangs have been built on the site. 'The Mustang Customizer allows users to get closer to this new product, as well as connect to the brand in a creative way because they can truly make it their own,' said Adam Barrow, Ford digital marketing analyst. 'Self-expression is what this brand is about.'

Self-expression is evident wîth the Mustang project vehicles on display at this year's SEMA show, according to Revier. 'They all look dramatically different, and that's what I think is so great about it,' she §äid. 'Everyone starts out wîth the same vehicle, but each aftermarket builder turns it into something completely distinctive.'

Ernie Bunnell, vice president of sales and marketing for 3dCarbon of Newport Beach, Calif., says his Mustang is unique because it is a modern-day version of 3dCarbon's award-winning 2005 Mustang Boy Racer.

'We are introducing the 2010 Boy Racer – an evolution of styling from the old to the new,' said Bunnell. 'With its bold, aerodynamic design, this vehicle is sure to turn heads.'

In addition to a 3dCarbon Boy Racer body kit, the red Mustang wîth white racing stripes features a front 'E' grille, rear window trim, window louvers wîth gel decal inserts, headlight splitters and decklid spoiler – all created by 3dCarbon.

The official motto of Steeda Autosports, 'Speed matters,' is most certainly reflected in the Steeda Mustang that will be on display at SEMA.

'The Steeda Q350 is embodied wîth the very soul of Mustang performance,' said Dario Orlando, president of Steeda Autosports. 'It combines the dynamics and agility of a high-performance sports racer wîth the everyday practicality and comfort of America's original pony car – all in one integrated package.'

The Steeda Mustang has an array of modifications, including a functional body kit wîth unique aerodynamic features, an upgraded street/track suspension system, numerous powertrain enhancements and a top-notch sport interior.

Ford Vehicle Personalization also will have a Mustang on display at SEMA. The vehicle, which features Ford Custom Accessories, sports a unique Carbon Black Metallic custom-colored exterior accented wîth satin gold 20-inch wheels and gold-tinted headlights and fog lamps. The interior continues the gold theme, wîth gold leather seat and door trim inserts, seat piping, Steering wheel cover and shifter boot.

'Metallic gold is currently very much in fashion throughout the design world,' said Mark Conforzi, chief designer, Ford Vehicle Personalization. 'There is a wide variety of modern gold finishes that can be seen in fashion apparel designs from Stella McCartney, Dior, Prada and Alexander McQueen. I would like to encourage gold finishes on our future products, in subtle and technical applications presented in a modern way.'

•The new 2011 Mustang GT, powered by the all-new 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8, will serve as the pace car for this year's Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 14.

•This will mark the first time in 40 years that a Ford has served as the pace car for ‘The Great American Race,' wîth the last time being in 1970 when a Ford Torino GT convertible did the honors. It is Mustang's first time as pace car for the Daytona 500.

•Fifty special pace car editions of the 2011 Mustang GT will be built and sold to the public.

•The actual Race Red Mustang will be auctioned at the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction on Jan. 23, wîth the help of Richard Petty, the newest member of the Ford Racing family.

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 19, 2010 – For the first time ever, American's favorite muscle car will pace ‘The Great American Race.'

For the first time in 40 years, a Ford Motor Company car will be pacing the field for the NASCAR season-opening Daytona 500 when the 2011 Mustang GT, powered by the all-new 5.0-liter V-8 engine, officially starts the race on Feb. 14 at Daytona International Speedway.

'Having the opportunity to pace America's biggest auto race wîth a Ford icon like the 2011 Mustang GT is truly an honor,' said Jamie Allison, director, Ford North America Motorsports. 'And to have the new 5.0-liter engine powering the car will be a great way to demonstrate its power and class-leading fuel economy.'

This latest version of Ford's legendary muscle car will be a Race Red glass roof coupe wîth an all-new 5.0-liter V-8 engine capable of producing 412 horsepower, while delivering a class-leading 25 mpg on the highway.

The 2011 Mustang GT Daytona 500 Pace Car model is one of only 50 special editions that will be built and sold to the public.

'Everybody loves Mustang,' Allison continued. 'That was evident last year from the fan reaction when we announced it was going to be our new model in the NASCAR Nationwide Series starting later this year. This is just another way to showcase a true American icon in its most natural environment.'

The last time a Ford served as pace car for the Daytona 500 was 1970 when a Ford Torino GT convertible led the field to the green flag.

And while Mustang may be a rookie when it comes to pacing the Daytona 500, its 45-year history is firmly entrenched in racing and winning championships. Mustang captured championships last year in the Grand-Am KONI and SCCA SPEED World Challenge, in addition to leading Robert Hight to his first NHRA Funny Car championship.

Another element that makes this year's pace car even more unique is that it will be auctioned off for charity before the actual race. Later this week (Jan. 23), the Mustang GT Daytona 500 Pace Car will be offered at the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction, which is taking place in Scottsdale, Ariz. Seven-time Daytona 500 champion Richard Petty, the newest member of the Ford Racing family, will be on site to help hand over the car to the winning bidder.

All proceeds over the manufacturer's suggested retail price from the pace car auction will go to help cure childhood diabetes through a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

'This year, one lucky bidder will not only experience the thrill of seeing his or her 2011 Mustang pacing the Daytona 500 in front of 43 of the world's greatest race car drivers, but will contribute toward finding a cure for juvenile diabetes at the same time.'

According to Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson, while many collectors have experienced the thrill of buying pace vehicles and historic racers on the Barrett-Jackson auction block, buying a pace car before it hits the track has never happened before at the famed auction house.

'It would be a thrill to own this early VIN, one-of-one 2011 Mustang GT Glass Roof Coupe Daytona 500 Pace Car and watch it lead the famous race in February,' he §äid. 'And knowing that you helped an amazing organization like JDRF would make it even better.'

This is the first time in four decades that a Ford Motor Company vehicle will pace the Daytona 500. The last time was in 1970 when the Ford Torino GT convertible had the honors.

In addition to the special paint, the Mustang pace car features a Brembo brake package, Ford Racing suspension, strut tower brace and mufflers, unique 19-inch painted wheels, summer-only tires and a special interior treatment, including lit sill plates. It also carries an early VIN and will be among the first 2011 Mustang GT 5.0-liter V-8s made available for sale to the public.

COLOGNE, Germany, Feb. 22, 2012 – The dynamic new Ford Tourneo Custom Concept will make its global debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, bringing a new level of energy and style to the European personal use vehicle §egmènt.

Previewing the introduction of a completely new range of people movers, wîth commercial vehicles to follow, the Tourneo Custom Concept showcases a dramatic new look that will appeal to customers seeking style, functionality and space.

'One look at the Tourneo Custom Concept is enough to tell you that it will inject an exciting new spirit into the personal use §egmènt,' said Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe. 'Our forthcoming new range gives us the opportunity to appeal to new customers wîth a fresh new direction, and we have seized that opportunity wîth both hands.

'We are excited to present this significant new concept in Geneva. The Tourneo Custom's car-like qualities will be appreciated by a broad range of business and leisure customers, and this is a fitting venue to present the vehicle for the first time.'

The Tourneo Custom Concept will preview of a host of exciting new features, which give the vehicle strong car-like appeal.

These include an all-new interior design wîth driver-focused cockpit, and a luxurious, fully trimmed cabin which has the ambience and high-quality materials of a modern multi-seat saloon car.

The Concept also showcases a number of smart innovations including multi-adjustable and removable rear seating, advanced SYNC voice-activated, in-car connectivity system wîth Emergency Assistance feature, and the latest Ford low-CO2 ECOnetic Technologies.

Dramatic new design language

The Tourneo Custom Concept communicates very clearly a dramatic new design direction for Ford's commercial vehicle range, which will be introduced later in 2012.

With its advanced, streamlined appearance, the concept vehicle embodies the same dynamic character as Ford's Kinetic Design passenger cars – generating the strong sense of movement, even when the vehicle is standing still.

'We set out to create a design wîth clean, futuristic lines and wîth a real sense of occasion,' explained Paul Campbell, chief designer, Ford of Europe.

'With its sportier stance, bold rising shoulder line and flush glazing, the Tourneo Custom Concept brings something fresh and exciting to this class of people mover.

'By applying the latest Kinetic Design principles, the design has a completely new style and drama,' he added.

Signature Kinetic Design features helps give the Tourneo Custom Concept its unique character, including the bold trapezoidal grille, strong and muscular shoulder line, prominent wheel lips and window lines wîth the distinctive kick at the rear.

The concept is further enhanced by a number of stylish details from the chrome grille surround and striking LED lighting on the front-end, to the dynamic looks of the 18-inch alloy wheels.

Luxurious car-like interior

Bringing a whole new level of car-like style and sophistication to the personal use §egmènt, the Tourneo Custom Concept features an all-new interior design.

'We wanted to give the driver, and the rear seat passengers, an interior which has the same standards of design and quality they would experience in a modern multi-seat saloon car, but wîth ample space for people and luggage' explained Campbell.

'From its modern, driver-focused cockpit, to the luxurious rear cabin finished in leather, the Tourneo Custom Concept shows that interiors in this class can be both functional and attractive.'

The stylish, sculpted instrument panel is orientated around the driver, and features technologies which are closely-related to those in Ford's car range. Like the exterior, the interior follows the same Kinetic Design approach as the latest passenger cars, such as in the taut wing-like section of the upper instrument panel.

Occupants in the rear are surrounded by space and luxury, wîth a fully-trimmed cabin which incorporates bold Kinetic Design detailing on the side panels which are linked to the graphical themes from the front.

The rear seats themselves are a completely new design, which can be easily folded into multiple configurations, or removed completely. This enables the interior to be easily tailored to suit business or leisure pursuits.

In the concept vehicle, the luxurious and spacious feel of the interior is further enhanced by an exclusive two-tone colour scheme, featuring hand-stitched leather seats wîth attractive cloth inserts.

Smart New Features

The Tourneo Custom Concept highlights that customers in the personal use market can expect the same high levels of technology which are enjoyed by Ford car drivers.

Among the smart, innovative features included on the concept are:

• ECOnetic Technologies – Ford's advanced low-CO2 features including Auto-Start-Stop and Smart Regenerative Charging

• SYNC voice-activated, in-car connectivity system – enables mobile phones and music players to be connected to the vehicle, and controlled using voice control

• Emergency Assistance – enabled by SYNC, this new feature is designed to assist occupants to contact the Emergency Services in the event of an accident, providing vehicle location information

• Advanced restraint system – including driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags

• Rear-view camera – integrated into the rear view mirror

• Lane Departure Warning and Driver Alert – latest driver assistance features to alert the driver if the system detects the vehicle is inadvertently drifting out of the lane, or the driver is becoming tired behind the wheel

To ensure that this enhanced specification is complemented by outstanding performance and fuel economy, the concept is powered by a further improved 155 PS version of Ford's 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine family.

The Tourneo Custom Concept is based on a new Ford global platform which has been engineered to deliver car-like dynamics, including agile, responsive handling, enhanced ride comfort and reduced noise-levels.

'Customers in the personal use market are demanding much higher levels of technology, performance and handling,' said Barry Gale, chief engineer, Ford of Europe. 'This concept shows that we are taking those demands very seriously, and that customers can expect a rewarding and car-like driving experience.'

New Generation of Ford Commercial Vehicles

The debut of the Tourneo Custom Concept has added significance in heralding the arrival of a completely new generation of Ford commercial vehicles. The full range of models will be revealed during 2012.

Kicking off this major series of introductions, the Tourneo Custom Concept itself highlights a new family of Ford people movers and one-tonne vans which will be launched in Europe and other global markets, but will not be sold in North America.

'The imminent arrival of an all-new people mover and van is an exciting moment for us,' said Gale. 'The new model gives us plenty to talk about, and we look forward to sharing more details very soon.'

This new range will be powered by enhanced versions of the new 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine, which was initially introduced in 2011; wîth Auto-Stop-Start technology fitted as standard, Ford is targeting best-in-class fuel economy.

Three power ratings will be available: 100 PS, 125 PS and 155 PS. All versions are paired wîth a six-speed manual transmission and feature front-wheel drive.

The model range will include a wide choice of body styles and two wheelbases (SWB and LWB) allowing for extra luggage or goods capability where required.

Ford will be presenting larger and higher payload Transits later in 2012. These models will be sold globally, including North America, and will also feature rear-wheel-drive.

'2012 is a tremendously significant year for Ford as we begin the roll-out of a completely new range of commercial vehicles,' said Odell. 'Our market-leading commercials have established a tremendous reputation for value and durability, and our new range is destined to raise this to a new level.'
