Remember the Bronco? Ford sure does—it’s been studying a Bronco
replacement for years. Like the T-bird, the Bronco harks back to the
past—in this case the original 1965 Bronco. The concept was designed as a
basic utility vehicle, featuring a three-door layout and manual
windows. If Ford green-lights the Bronco for production, it likely won’t
get the concept’s 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder or its
nitrous-oxide injection system, but it could get the twin-clutch robotic
PowerShift manual transmission, which uses two automatic clutches to
smooth over jerky torque interruptions during shifts. Ford promises mass
production of the transmission by 2010.
