The new 1969 Ford Mustang gave the engineers at Shelby a chance to start with a fresh new design which would become the final year for Shelby production. The Shelby cars, both the GT350 and the GT500, featured an all-new, exclusive to the Shelby's, fiberglass front end including the fenders and bumper.

The new Shelby bumper has a much larger grille opening than the Ford Mustangs. The front fenders have functioning air ducts to aid in cooling the front disc brakes.

The GT350 cars were powered by a new 351 Windsor small block engine which produced 290 horsepower, an increase of 40 more than the previous 302 cid. "Ram Air" induction also became standard on the GT350's and Gt500's.
